Readers

Through Divine Revelation, God chose to show forth and communicate Himself and the eternal decisions of His will regarding the salvation of men. That is to say, He chose to share with them those divine treasures which totally transcend the understanding of the human mind.

History

Readers are special liturgical ministers whose principal duty is to serve the community by proclaiming the readings from Scripture during the Mass.

In the early Church, Lectors were adult men who were preparing to become Deacons and Priests. The Second Vatican Council extended to laypeople the opportunity to perform this liturgical role on a regular basis as "Readers".

Who Can Serve

This ministry is open to those practicing Catholics ages 16 and over who meet the requirements of the Parish and the Diocese of Providence.
